Biography

It's been a phenomenal few years for welsh comedy sensation Rhod Gilbert, establishing him as one of the leading and most original comedy talents in the country. In the past eighteen months alone he has performed twice on Live At The Apollo – most recently as a host, headlined Michael Mcintyre's Comedy Roadshow, hosted Never Mind The Buzzcocks and appeared on The Royal Variety Performance and Would I Lie To You? – as well as making regular appearances on panel shows 8 out of 10 Cats and Mock The Week.

Rhod's debut live DVD – Rhod Gilbert & The Award-Winning Mince Pie – was released last November and claimed the title for the year's fastest selling debut stand-up DVD – selling more than 50,000 DVD's in the first two weeks alone and entering the stand-up chart at number 3.  His second live DVD Rhod Gilbert & The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst, was filmed at the Hammersmith Apollo in June and hits the shops in November.

A multi award-winning comedian with a reputation as a first class live act, Rhod has been a sell-out sensation at the Edinburgh festival every year since 2005 and has been invited to perform at every major international festival in the world. A former winner of Time Out's Comic of The Year, Rhod is truly cemented as one of the foremost touring acts in the country. Currently touring his latest show – Rhod Gilbert & The Cat That Looked Like Nicholas Lyndhurst, Rhod will perform live to over 100,000 people in sell-out shows across the country including three nights at London's prestigious Hammersmith Apollo.

Rhod has recently been awarded his own Radio 2 series - which he is recording over the summer months and which will broadcast on Saturday nights in the Autumn.  Rhod Gilbert's Bulging Barrel of Laughs will feature regular guests, stand-up comedians and live music from hit bands.  Also on Radio 2, Rhod's stand-up world was recently depicted in a pilot entitled Rhod Gilbert's Leaving Llanbobl, based in the fictional Welsh village which has become legendary in his stand-up routines.  Rhod is now busy developing the show with Babycow for TV broadcast. He continues to present his Saturday morning weekly radio show for BBC Wales and continues to fly the flag for Wales, fronting a TV campaign for the Welsh Tourist Board.

Rhod’s collection of awards is extensive: He has won the Chortle Awards ‘Best Headliner' 2009 and Best Breakthrough (2005), Time Out Award ‘Comic of the Year’, ‘Best Show’ and ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ 2008, Named as one of the Top 50 Time Comedians 2006 and BBCs New Comedy Award in 2003.

He has has an extensive Edinburgh Festival career; he featured in
