Biography
German-born Michael is a legend in the tennis world. He was professional tennis player from 1988 - 1997 and in his many years on the court claimed numerous titles, including: Wimbledon Champion (singles and doubles), ATP-World Champion, Davis Cup Champion and Olympic Gold Medallist (doubles). His all-round ability, both from the baseline and at the net, allowed him to become one of the few players to win tournaments on all surfaces. His career-high singles ranking was World No. 2 in 1993.
After retiring, Michael founded of the non-profit and charitable Michael Stich Foundation in 1994 and has worked tireless raising money and awareness ever since. The charity supports children living in Germany, infected by HIV or living with AIDS.
Michael serves as a pundit on the BBC, as well as having been tournament director of the International German Open in Hamburg and tournament director of the ATP-challenger Braunschweig.
