Entrepreneur, Author & Speaker

Tim Drake has co-founded and run businesses, think tanks and charities. He is a keynote speaker to business audiences around Europe on personal and group motivation, and unlocking potential.

He believes that many people feel, like he does, that they have unrealised potential, and that they are looking at ways to release it. Now in his seventies, he still sees himself as a promising youngster and intends to keep thinking and behaving like someone much younger. He is putting more into life, and getting more out of it.

“Generation Cherry” is his fourth book, and he had the most fun writing it – tackling the challenges, spotting the opportunities and providing an action plan for anyone approaching retirement and/or finding themselves redundant.

"Generation Cherry" is a toolkit for this new era. It’s full of practical steps for avoiding "retirement" and the grey slide towards death.

Tim explains why it’s so important to develop a fresh outlook on life. It details how to rethink our priorities, recognise our blessings, and take advantage of today’s new work landscape, rather than feeling trapped by it.

At its centre is an understanding that to live a life of meaning, variety and fulfilment, we need to take responsibility for how we think, feel, and act as individuals. We must build a grounded self-confidence - something that's possibly wobbling at this point.

The book is thus about getting a second bite of the cherry of life. It answers some crunch questions. How do you retain a sense of control, when the old stabilities of conventional jobs and career development are dissolving around you? How do you live positively with income uncertainty? How do you make sure you fit in some more adventures before you even start thinking about getting old? Tim shares some of the answers in “Generation Cherry”, his latest inspirational keynote talk.

Tim spent more than a decade in Fast Moving Consumer Goods, ending up as Client Services Director of the global advertising agency BBDO. In the 80’s he became an entrepreneur and co-founded a retail business that achieved a turnover of £17 million. It was called by 3i, “a gem of a company.” Selling the business in 1992, Tim has built up a portfolio of interests. He set up, and Chairs, three Think Tanks for Chief Executives, including the Sports and Leisure Industry, with CEO’s from brands such as Nike, Wilson, and Helly Hansen.

One of Tim’s recent books, is “You Can Be As Young As You Think”.  It is an uplifting and practical guide to moving from 'Old Brained', anxious, defensive, closed, thinking, to 'Young Brained', creative, enthusiastic and open thinking.  An App of the Brain Age Test has also been created. In this keynote presentation Tim shows people how to get rid of their Old Brained anxieties, fears, doubts - and grumpiness - and get back to their excited, youthful selves. They will become more in touch with what is going on in society and how their customers are thinking and feeling. They will anticipate changes in consumer tastes and will be more creative, optimistic and enthusiastic about their jobs, their markets and their lives.
