Biography
From Newspaper Editor to Britain’s Got Talent Judge, Piers's story covers the ups and downs of a career touched by wealth, controversy, celebrity and sacrifice. He is an engaging and charismatic speaker who holds nothing back.
Piers Morgan studied journalism at Harlow College, and began his career working on South London newspapers before being spotted by Kelvin MacKenzie of The Sun and being given his own showbiz column, Bizarre.
He became Editor of The News of the World in January 1994 and two years later he was headhunted to edit The Mirror. He worked there until May 2004, when he left amid much controversy.
In 2006, Morgan launched First News, a weekly paper aimed at seven to fourteen-year-olds.
Piers Morgan has presented two series of Tabloid Tales for BBC1 and has co-hosted the current affairs show Morgan & Platell for Channel 4.
He presented The Importance of Being Famous and You Can’t Fire Me, I’m Famous for BBC1, which sees him interviewing famous faces that have been involved in a high-profile sacking or walk-out.
Piers is currently making a name for himself in the States as Simon Cowell’s loathsome Brit mate on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, which rated No. 1 in the USA, with a second series now on air.
In 2008, a new series started, The Dark Side of Fame with Piers Morgan, produced by BBC Scotland.
Morgan returned to ITV1 in 2009, with the series, Piers Morgan On..., which saw him visit Dubai, Monte Carlo and Hollywood, now in its second series. In 2009 Morgan's show, Piers Morgan's Life Stories, began on ITV1 with Sharon Osborne as the subject of the first episode.
His book, The Insider: Private Diaries Of A Scandalous Decade, became an instant No. 1 bestseller. The sequel, Don’t You Know Who I Am? Insider Diaries Of Fame, Power & Naked Ambition, is out now.
In September 2010, CNN announced Morgan would replace Larry King in the network's evening line-up, occupying the 9:00 PM eastern timeslot, with his show Piers Morgan Tonight, beginning 17 January 2011.
Piers lives in London and East Sussex and is a devoted Arsenal fan.
