Biography
Dr Marilyn Orcharton ran her own dental practice from 1974 to 1986 whereupon she sold it to found and grow Denplan Limited, now the country’s leading dental healthcare scheme. It was sold in 1993 to PPP for £42 million.
Her energy and enthusiasm for business has seen her move into numerous new roles which offer her the opportunity to assist small business, build her next multi-million pound organisation, support various charities and lend her knowledge and wit to conference delegates throughout the world.
She is currently managing director of Kite Consultants Ltd., developers of a new product, ISOPLAN, which is a comprehensive business management system written specifically for individual small professional businesses such as dentists, nursing homes, pharmacists and surveyors and conforms to all requirements of the ISO/9000 quality assurance standard. Marilyn was also responsible for the new software product called Prove IT 2000. It was designed to combat the “Millennium Bug” by checking the millennium compliance of PC’s and providing or suggesting solutions where problems were discovered.
Since 1988 Marilyn has been a supporter and patron of the Small Business Bureau and is currently a director of the board and company secretary.
1998 Elected President of the Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, the first woman ever in the 215 years history of the Chamber to be President.
She is co-owner of JIT International, a company that provides international training for overseas businesswomen, in particular former eastern block countries.
A great deal of her time is devoted to assisting small businesses to grow and develop and also to advise and encourage business start ups. She is a firm believer that the future success of the country lies in the hands of small businesses.
Marilyn is more than accustomed to keynote speaking having been invited to address innumerable functions both in the UK and worldwide. Recently she became a reluctant convert to the Net. Having approached it from a Luddite’s perspective, she is now planning to launch her own web-based business! She has combined her enthusiasm for business and her new found knowledge to become a powerful speaker on internet applications.
She regularly speaks on radio and TV on various issues and has been a panel member on the BBC’s Question Time. Marilyn Orcharton speaks as an enormously successful woman, and her ability to inspire others is now achieving recognition worldwide.
