Biography
A brilliant after dinner speaker, Graham has also developed a reputation as a highly professional link person and a sought after keynote speaker on the subject of communication skills. Working at approximately 100 events a year in front of a variety of audiences, Graham has developed his own distinctive speaking style, which is the key to his popularity.
His success is due to an ability to be the right person, saying the right thing, at the right time. Accomplished at taking a brief, he skilfully utilises background information about the company, and more importantly the audience, to ensure his speeches are precisely tailored to the occasion.
Graham's professional speaking career started after being elected President of the Cambridge Union. It was then that he started to receive invitations to speak after various formal dinners. He now combines the life of a barrister at the Criminal Bar with that of a corporate After Dinner Speaker and Link Presenter. Working at approximately 120 events a year, he has developed a speaking style which can best be described as being somewhere between Voltaire and the Sunday Sport.
Despite all this, recent satisfied clients include: IBM, Legal and General, DHL, Mazda, Agfa and KPMG Peat Marwick.
Graham uses his experience as a practising barrister in working to a brief about his audience. He can skilfully utilise background information about the Company to ensure the delivery is precisely tailored to the occasion. However, for Graham, detailed information is not a prerequisite of an effective speech. His breadth of material allows him to be just as entertaining to an audience with disparate interests.
If appropriate (and only then) he is particularly adept at targeting personalities within an organisation. He is also a past master of the art of the "wind-up". He can adopt a persona to fool the audience into thinking that they are about to endure a serious, yet controversial presentation. Their incredulity then dissolves in laughter as they realise they have been had. Previous spoof roles have included:- a VAT Inspector, The Wax Director of Madame Tussaud's, PR Executive for Air India, and the lead guitarist of Pink Floyd.
Sorties into Link Presenting have been extremely successful, with an IBM audience giving him a satisfaction rating of 98%.
Graham prides himself in delivering an effective result through his supreme adaptability to client need. Using his legal and communication skills he is able to enhance the impact of a conference, but with his wit unsheathed he can bring laughter to any event.
