Biography

Clive is a former barrister, accomplished writer and an extremely popular presenter and after dinner speaker in which roles he liberally sprinkles his quick wit and rapid banter.

Clive currently features on such prime time shows as 'Would I Lie To You?' and 'QI', as well as presenting numerous shows, both comedic and formally.
 
Clive developed his flair for comedy and performing when he studied at Selwyn College, Cambridge between 1972 and 1975.  He was President of the Cambridge Footlights for a year and wrote and performed in several revues including "Stage Fright" which he also directed.
 
Before achieving prominence as a performer, Clive amassed a string of writing credits for artists such as Frankie Howard, Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones on programs to include “Not the Nine O'Clock News”, “Alas Smith and Jones” and “Around Midnight”.  Clive has also written articles for “The Times”, “The Observer”, ”The Listener” and has a regular column in ”The Sunday Correspondent”.
 
Clive's career progressed onto live performance in various touring revues and stand-up entertainment at venues such as the Comedy Store in the early 80’s.  He then moved to radio with credits such as “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, “The News Quiz”, “The Devil's Advocate” as well as “Unreliable Evidence” debating the big courtroom issues.
 
”Whose Line Is It Anyway?” first appeared on BBC Radio 4 in 1988 before transferring to the small-screen on Channel 4.  Clive was Chairman for both.  Clive has presented several other shows to include “Clive Andersen Talks Back” and “All Talk”.  Other television appearances include "Have I Got News For You" and hosting BBC1's "Wogan" for two weeks.
 
Clive Anderson isn’t just known for comedy.  He has also presented several documentaries for the BBC and Channel 4.  He made a successful six part series for the BBC entitled ”Our Man In” where Clive was sent around the world to out-of-the-way places, he hosted a live 2 hour special of “The Channel 4 Debate” during the last General Election as well as presenting the revamped Quiz Show “Mastermind” for BBC Discovery. He has also contributed to serious political shows, such as ‘Question Time’ and reporting on the general election for the BBC.
 
Clive presented “The Big Read”, part of the huge campaign to get the country reading and find the nation's best loved-book. No stranger to literary events, Clive has previously hosted the “NCR Books Awards” as well as chairing two series of ”Before The Booker”. 
 
Clive Anderson was awarded the television industry's ”Comedy Presenter of the Year” Award in 1991 and he won an award from the British Comedy Awards for the ”Top Channel 4 Presenter” in 1992. Clive is particularly good at presenting awards having previously hosted numerous awards evenings to include “BAFTA Craft Awards” and “The Evening Standard Film Awards”.
