Biography

Anita has been chosen to host the new Channel 4 show Four Rooms – an antiques show with a twist, which will air in April 2011 in a primetime week night slot. Anita is also a regular reporter and studio guest on BBC1’s daily magazine programme The One Show.  In March 2009, Anita joined BBC1’s Watchdog team and presented the latest consumer news and advice from the studio combined with investigations and topical reports.

Anita presented the series Rogue Restaurants with Matt Allwright Summer/Autumn 2009 on BBC1. Together the hardy duo toured the UK undercover in the name of exposing shocking cases of restaurant hygiene. In 2006 Anita became part of the Sky Sports family and co-presented Cricket AM on Sky Sports every Saturday morning with Simon Thomas.
Anita grew up in Bradford, and came to broadcasting early, with her own show on Sunrise Radio at the age of 14.  She studied Broadcasting at Leeds University, and went on to work as a TV researcher for the BBC and various independent companies.

With her passion for music and argument, Anita was a natural on-screen talent, and was made the face of Street Beat for UK Play.  In 2002, Anita presented a groundbreaking live programme for Five, The Edit, combining news and entertainment for young people.  She went on to become the new face of Network East, the BBC2 flagship Asian magazine show, and in 2003 she fronted BBC3’s satirical current affairs programme The State We’re In.

She was a regular face of major pop extravaganzas for Five, including Spring Break Live, Party in the Park and Pop City Live.   Anita was one of the voices of Five’s The Chart between 2002 and 2005.  She presented BBC3’s first Poetry Slam, and also worked regularly for 5 News as a freelance journalist.

She presented the first three series of the BBC2 award-winning Asian cultural magazine Desi DNA, and was part of the launch team presenting Destination Three, BBC3’s late-night entertainment zone.
She joined BBC’s Asian Network in March 2005 as presenter of the weekend breakfast shows Hot Breakfast.  She went on to present the weekday mid-morning phone-in and hosted the station’s main forum for discussion and debate, centered on news and current affairs and young Asians in Britain.

Anita was nominated as Best On Screen Personality at the RTS Midlands awards in 2005.  In 2006 she was a regular reporter on The Cricket Show for Channel 4 as well as presenting My Generation Next, shown on BBC News 24.  She appeared on BBC Radio Five Live in 2007 and presented World Have Your Say on the BBC World Service and Weekend Breakfast on Radio Five Live.  In August 2007 she presented Calcutta Uncovered as part of the BBC India and Pakistan ’07 season and she is frequently asked to cover various shows on BBC Radio 6 Music.
