Michael Acton Smith Shares His Mind Candy

The dynamic young entrepreneur, Michael Acton Smith, who founded the popular gadget company ‘Firebox’ and started the online phenomenon ‘Moshi Monsters’, inspired a business audience on the 19th October at The Forum, Sheffield.
Offering innovative and quirky gadgets from around the world, the internet based company Firefox now turns over in excess of £10 million. Michael’s more recent business, Mind Candy has become one of the world's leading developers of social multi-player games, helping kids around the world play and connect. Mind Candy’s flagship product, Moshi Monsters, has grown rapidly since it launched in April 2008. Michael was recently featured in the Financial Times; they report that Moshi Monsters alone attracts 7 million monthly users. The full article is available via Michael’s speaker profile.
It has not, however, always been plain sailing for the young entrepreneur, who almost lost control of Mind Candy in 2008. Michael’s brainwave in creating Moshi Monsters has not only saved the company, and pushed its projected sales figures into the tens of millions, it has boosted him to unexpected celebrity status. A guidebook to the Moshi world is released this month, and Michael has been in demand at book signings to meet his fans.
During his presentation, Michael discussed how he set up his businesses, Firebox and Mind Candy – and the experiences and challenges he encountered during their development. He took questions on the journey to his current position, and the presentation was extremely well received.
The event manager commented, ‘Michael is a top drawer speaker...I would not hesitate to recommend Michael to anyone looking for an open, interesting and knowledgeable speaker around business startup, building a business, multi channel marketing, online retailing, and online development. Thanks for a great event.’
