World Book Night is a celebration of books which sees tens of thousands of people give books within their communities to spread the joy and love of reading.
World Book night took place on April 23 2012 and was celebrated in the UK, Ireland, Germany and USA.
1 million copies of 25 specially chosen and printed books were given to non or light readers across the UK by 20,000 passionate readers as well as directly to prisons, Hospitals and libraries.
Reading changes lives and at the heart of World Book Night lies the simplest of ideas and acts, that of putting a book into another person’s hand and saying ‘this one’s amazing, you have to read it’.
Joe Simpson donated 25,000 copies of Touching the Void.
