In the current economic climate of falling share prices, falling currency and our own PM’s falling popularity, it is perhaps not surprising that he invited the UK’s top climbers, including our very own Andy Cave to No.10 last month. The cynical amongst us might think he was hoping for some tips on how to get out of the hole he is in!

Andy happily accepted the invitation as it was an opportunity to further the cause of mountaineering on the overall UK sporting agenda.

Unfortunately, Joe Simpson felt it might be best to decline his invitation, given his rather outspoken views on his web site, (click here and see “dislikes”) and because he went fishing instead.
