Alain Robert, otherwise known as ‘the French Spiderman’, has set his sights high for his next death defying climb. As part of the inaugural Mettle Games, the largest extreme sports festival in Singapore, he will attempt to scale the 42-storey-high ‘Singapore Flyer’, the world’s largest Ferris wheel. This will be a unique climb for Alain, given that he is accustomed to climbing straight up, not round. Similar in appearance to the London Eye, the wheel stands at 165 meters tall and will be climbed by Robert while it is in motion!
The Frenchman, who is known as one of the world’s best and most daring free climbers (climbers who use no ropes), has ascended over 70 skyscrapers to date. Some of his most impressive climbs include what were then the tallest buildings in Russia, China, Lithuania and England, as well as numerous other massive landmarks. There are even rumours he will attempt to climb the newly built Burj Khalifa in the future; the tallest building in the world! As well as being his lifelong passion, climbing has allowed Alain to raise large amounts of money for charities.
The festival Mettle Games takes place around Singapore until November 7th. Alain’s attempt to scale the giant Ferris wheel will be on November 5th.
