Motivational speaker - Derek Redmond

This is the thrid year of the sprinters event on Deansgate Manchester and the organisers are planning to make it the best. With over 7,000 spectators expected the event should really be exciting.

The Great CityGames due to take place on Sunday 15th May is part of the BBC's five hours "live" coverage in Manchester of the Great Day of Sport, starting with Bupa Great Manchester Run with 38,000 runners in the morning, running alongside Haile Gebrsalassie over 10km. This will be swiftly followed by the Great Salford Swim with 2,000 folk taking the splash over 1 mile - open water, then its back onto the streets of Manchester for the final event.

Derek's team will consist of Neil McAndrew (Model) 10km; O J Borg (National Lottery Presenter). They will be competing against other celebrities such as Ricky Whittle (Hollyoaks fame), Mark Foster (Olympic swimmer & strictly com dancing!!), (Dalton Grant, ex - Olympic High Jumper/Total Wipeout record holder!)

Derek will be sprinting 100 meters.

The celebrity race is scheduled for 16.20pm. The celebrity event is for fun and will break up the programme from the serious Athletes! - Jess Ennis and Tyson Gay whose aim is to break World Records. The celebrity sprint will be the fourth race from the end.
